The growth of grass (Italian and English ryegrass) starts at 3-5 ⁰C. As temperatures during January were even higher than that, these grasses have used up all food reserves for their growth so they need to be fed as soon as possible (taking into account the provisions of the Ordinance on Good Agricultural Practice in the Use of Fertilizers) to ensure the mass and the required quality of the forage. It should be taken into account that the most of the grass root is in the surface layer of the soil, up to 5 cm deep, so that all the nutrients added by top dressing can be used well. Recommended fertilizers are nitrogen fertilizers ASN or CAN, although NPK grades such as NPK 20-10-10 or NPK 15-15-15 can be used in early grass top dressing, especially in light soils.
